The Archangel Gabriel – Messenger To Man
I have had a personal interest in the Archangel Gabriel after learning some years ago that this angel may have had a personal interest in me. I was informed by one of the many entities communicating with the family through my wife, Doris, that Gabriel is my Guardian Angel. It was a hard time believing such a story, of course. And yet circumstances surrounding my life over the years have been so strange at times, and so amazingly magical, that I must wonder just how close this angelic connection has been in my personal life.

Michael – The Archangel Of Protection
My late wife Doris and I became aware of the protective grace of the Archangel Michael during our adventures in Arizona, while involved in a struggle for our survival in a hostile and unfamiliar territory. Consequently we regard Michael as an old friend. We discovered that we always knew when Michael was with us because the room would fill with a faint violet light. Doris found herself surrounded in Michael’s protective light one night when she was alone in a rented motel room in Winslow while a fierce knife fight went on just outside her door. On yet another occasion I called upon Michael, and his light filled my car when I was forced to made a non-stop drive from Texas to Michigan with a fierce winter storm on my heels. The soft amber light surrounded the car during the long night drive and as tired as I was, I knew that I was going to get home safely. It is said that Michael was the first angel created by God and that he is leader of all of the Archangels. He carries a flaming sword that he uses to protect us from negative entities. His duty is to protect us, give us courage, truth and integrity. His protection reaches beyond the physical into emotional and psychic levels.

Raguel – The Archangel Of Justice
Raguel is counted among the Seven Archangels listed within Hebrew literature. After Gabriel, Michael, Rachael and Uriel, Raguel is listed among the lesser of the remaining archangels. This angel is found in the Book of the Revelation as the angel of the Church in Philadelphia (Rev. 3:7). Raguel also shows Enoch The Seven Mountains and appears as the seventh angel in Rev. 9:14. He is mentioned by name only in the Book of Enoch, which was strangely excluded from the books of the Bible. The name Raguel is said to mean Friend of God. It is believed this is the archangel of justice, fairness and harmony. His duties include watching over the angelic world to make sure they are all working in harmony, and he brings them into account for improper deeds.

Raphael – Angel Of Healing
Raphael is a Hebrew name that means “the shining one who heals.” Ancient mythology states that it was Raphael that taught medicine to mortals, eased Abraham’s pain after his circumcision, and healed Jacob’s thigh after he supposedly wrestled with another angel. He is considered a patron of the sciences and medicine. He is mentioned in ancient stories as being a member of the cherubim, dominations and powers. Raphael also is thought to be the head of the guardian angels.

Sariel – Archangel of Healing And Death
There are many old books that refer to the Archangel Sariel. The Bible is not among them. The very name is Hebrew in its origin and it translates to “Command of God.” This angel appears to have many tasks, but highlighted among them is the power of healing and the comfort of the dying. The Book of Enoch identifies Sariel as one of four holy archangels “of eternity and trembling.” The Kabbala states that Sariel is one of seven angels of the Earth. Early Christian writer Origen Adamantius also identified him as one of seven angels of “primordial powers.”

Uriel; Archangel With The Fiery Sword
Uriel has long been listed among the seven primary archangels. The Roman Catholic Church accepted Uriel as an archangel for many centuries, but later removed the name because this angel is not named in The Bible. The name and most of what we know of Uriel is found in other ancient apocryphal books, most of them Hebrew in origin. Nevertheless, Uriel appears to be one of the more important angels in that realm. Some believe Uriel may be one of the cherubs guarding the gate of Eden and that he stands at that gate with a fiery s word. The Book of Enoch states that Uriel is the angel who “watches over thunder and terror.”

Archangel Zadkiel – Co-Chief With Gabriel
When the angels of the Lord unite to get a major job done on Earth or among the Heavenly beings, it is believed that Zadkiel and Jophiel are the two standard bearers following the Archangel Michael into battle. At least this is how the Hebrew priests of old envisioned him. Other writings say Zadkiel is listed as co-chief with the Archangel Gabriel.

Abasdarhun – Angel Of The Night
Some myths have portrayed Abasdarhun as a demon. In fact a rock band once took this angelic name, perhaps thinking that it represented one of the Spirits of the Goetia. Abasdarhun’s title, however, is Supreme Ruling Angel of the Fifth Hour of the Night. While Abasdarhun is never mentioned in Hebrew scripture, his name does appear in other sacred and ancient mythological books. When the names of the angels are listed, this one always appears high on the list.

Adonai - Angel Of God
Ancient Hebrew text speaks of Adonai as both an “angel of the Lord” and another name for YHVH, the most holy and unspoken reference to God. Thus there is confusion as to the true identity of Adonai. One old book refers to Adonai as Malakh Adonai, or Angel of the Lord. This text appears to consider Adonai as a King of Angels, standing above the rest. He thus may be the supreme representative or messenger of God and his word is “one” with the very person of God.

He is listed among the 20 “fallen” angels who led the angelic pack that mated with the women of the Earth and produced a new breed of “giants” as told in the Book of Genesis. These angels also were said to have taught humanity “forbidden knowledge.”

Chamuel – Archangel Of Divine Love
The Archangel Chamuel is said to be a host of God’s divine love. This is the kind of love that Jesus described as “the love that passeth all understanding.” Artists that have attempted to portray Chamuel produce only a faint image embedded in a glowing background of light. Streams of pure light pour from the heart chakra of this entity making it almost impossible to make out the detail of its source.

Orifiel – Angel Of The Forests
There is a story that the Cabala describes Orifiel as an angel that protects and safeguards the wilderness. Its job is to encourage us to protect the Earth. Thus Orifiel is known as the Angel of the Forests. It also is said that Orifiel can be found in the uncultivated and unsettled tracts of the Earth that are still found in their natural condition. Unfortunately, these unsettled and undisturbed areas are dwindling as the human population grows and encroaches on even the jungles and wilderness areas. Yet Orifiel also inhabits a symbolic wilderness that includes the inner mind of man. These are the parts of us that are unaffected by guile, worldliness and greed.

Halaliel – The Angel That Spoke Through Cayce
The angel Halaliel is on record as “the lord of karma.” That is because of a peculiar message it left through the late and famous psychic Edgar Cayce, through whom it once spoke to the world. There does not appear to be any other reference to Halaliel in the Bible or other ancient and holy books of the world. This being made its appearance unexpectedly in the 1930s when Cayce was in one of his trances. As usual he had witnesses surrounding him and recording the messages that came out of his lips.

Samael – Is He Good Or Evil?
There are many different ways of describing the spirit Samael. In Hebrew literature he is said to be both good and evil. He is said to be the angel of death, the chief angel of the fifth heaven but also acts as an accuser, seducer and destroyer. How can this be? Some Jewish lore insists that Samael remains one of God’s servants even though he appears to want to tempt men to do evil things. Is he then a purifier? Does he sift the wheat from the chaff when it comes to deciding who is good and who is among the damned on Earth?

Asbeel – The Forsaken Angel
The Book of Genesis tells about the “sons of God” lusting after women of the Earth and taking them as wives. They produced giants on the Earth called Nephilim who filled the earth with violence and caused God to flood the earth and restart creation with the family of Noah. Many Bible scholars consider this story as a myth. Yet the Book of Enoch, chapter 69, speaks of the fallen angel Asbeel who “imparted to the holy sons of God evil counsel and led them astray so that they defiled their bodies with the daughters of men.”

Zuriel – The Angel Of Rock
Zuriel is not listed in the Scriptures as one of the seven archangels although he is remembered in Hebrew text as part of a trinity of powers that stood in defense of the Jews during some of their most trying battles. Zuriel’s actual title is “prince of the order of principalities” and his name in Hebrew means “my rock is God.” His name implies a joining of the Archangels of stone, war and the sword. When present, it is said that no enemy can pass. Stories are told of how Zuriel stands like a soldier of heroic sacrifice, blocking the way so that others may escape. When rooted to the spot, he cannot be moved.

King Solomon And The Goetia Demons
In mythology it is said that 72 Spirits of the Goetia, or demons, were bound by the magic of Solomon for the past 4,000 years. The legend is that King Solomon of Old Testament fame bound these demonic forces after using them to gain his great wisdom and wealth. Each demon, or spirit, I am told, commands legions of lesser demons. A legion is an untold but large number of warriors waiting to serve at their leader's call. Most interesting of all, the spirits, or demons are supposedly at war with the angelic forces that presently rule the people of Earth. So who was Solomon, how did he gain power over these demonic kings, what did he use them for, and how did he imprison those bad boys when finished with them?

Why Have So Many Humans Worshiped Bael?
Ancient historical records indicate that Bael, the first principal spirit listed in the Goetia, has been the subject of human worship for thousands of years. The Hebrews were admonished in the Old Testament for turning away from Jehova and bowing down to Bael. The Sumerians worshiped several gods, including Marduk, another name for Bael, also spelled Baal. The Canaanites and Amorites also worshiped Bael. Some believe the Egyptian god Osiris was none other than Bael in disguise.

Agares – A Troublesome Demon
The second listed Spirit of the Goetia is Agares, a troublesome character to have around. It is said that he is under the power of the East and when evoked. And he appears as an old man riding a crocodile. Agares is a grand duke of Hell. He leads 31 legions of demons. The old magicians who evoked, studied and wrote of him noted that he enjoys destroying a person’s dignity, evoking people to use foul language, and even makes anyone in motion “stand still.” This has been interpreted as ruining careers.

Vassago: An Impish Spirit?
When evoked in a remote viewing session a few years ago, the Goetia Spirit Vassago appeared as an alien with a large eye peering from behind an invisible partition. It was as if the edge of a mirror sliced the image in half never allowing it to be seen as complete.Draw ings by others who have evoked this third spirit in the list of 72 demons of the Goetia depict Vassago as a rather frightening and complex creature. There may have been good reason for its unwillingness to appear as it really looks when its portrait was being made.

Demon Samigina; The Little Horse
For thousands of years the Goetian Spirit known as Samigina has been seen by magicians in the form of an ass, or some say a "little horse." Also known as Gamigin, this spirit holds the rank of marquis. He first appears in the form of a horse and then changes into human shape at the request of the summoner. It is said that he speaks with a hoarse voice. He teaches all liberal sciences and gives account of souls that died in sin. He governs 30 Legions of “Inferiors.” We suspect these are lesser ranking demons.

Marbas; The Spirit With Cat Eyes
The old magickians said Marbas first appeared to them as a large cat . . possibly a lion. S. L. MacGregor Mathers says Marbas is a shapeshifter that can appear as either lion or man. "He possesses knowledge of secrets, causes diseases and cures them, and has great knowledge in the mechanical arts." The Seagrave art site suggests that the powers of Marbas allow it to alter its shape may extend to an ability to cause others around him to look different. Amon; Ancient God Of The Middle East
It is said that the Egyptians were the first to bow down to him. They knew this demonic spirit as Ammon, although he had other names including Amun, Amen and Ammon-Ra, the sun god. He was sometimes portrayed in Egyptian art as a man with the head of a bird. This devious spirit may even go farther back into history. The Sumerian King List, a controversial record of all the rulers of Earth dating over 400,000 years, lists as immortal gods such names as Enmeduranki, Annunaki, Nephilim, Nefiim, and Elohim, all linking us to an ancient story of a visit by an alien race called the Annunaki, who some believe were the parents of the human race on this planet.

Barbatos; A Skeletal Figure With Green Emerald
Long described as the hunter in green clothing, a crafty friend to any magician able to raise him, Barbatos is obviously the stuff legends and old stories are made of. This great Goetian Duke is briefly described as a hunter who appears with four noble kings and their armies at his side. The kings are blowing horns in celebration of Barbatos' arrival. It is said this demon can talk to animals, open magically protected treasures, tell of past things, predict the future, and be of good council to those in power.

Valefor; Another Strange Spirit
In their efforts to describe Valefor, the Sixth Spirit of the Goetia, the old magicians said he looked like a lion with the head of an ass. Valefor looks somewhat like an animal because he stands on four legs, but he has a large head, small eyes, and a long flowing beard. One old book said Valefor has been called numerous other names, including Valafar, Valefar, and Malaphar. He is a duke that governs 10 legions of spirits.

King Paimon – Elegance Of Royalty
He is listed as the ninth Goetia Spirit, but if there is a demon displaying a power to rival that of Bael, it is probably Paimon. This guy is among the most difficult spirits to summon and it is said that when he appears, he comes in elegant garb, with a sound of music and with a contingent of accompanying spirits. Nineteenth Century magician and author S. L. MacGregor Mathers wrote that Paimon was “once of the Order of Dominations” before his alleged fall from Heaven. He noted that Paimon is so powerful he rules over 200 legions of demons.

Buer – The Demon Of Illusions
There is mystery surrounding Buer, the Tenth Spirit of the Goetia. Various magicians have raised and caught visions of this demon over the years and they seem to all have given us a different description. Wikipedia says Buer “has been described as being in the shape of Sagittarius, which is a centaur with a bow and arrows. Yet the general image, an illustration by Louis Breton, depicts Buer as an entity with a central body projecting the head of a lion and five goat legs that allow it to walk in every direction.

Blue Demon Gusion
The web site Gods and Monsters states that ancient writers have described Gusion as looking like a baboon, but those who have summoned and observed this demon say he appears “more like a bright, bluish creature with narrow eyes and mouth.” The writer said there is so much light around him that it is difficult to see much of him. Ancient drawings consequently vary.

Sitri Exposes The Sins Of Church Sexual Suppression
When a remote viewer summoned the Goetian Spirit Sitri there was a surprise. It was as if this spirit knew he was going to have his picture not only drawn but it would be seen by thousands of people via the World Wide Web. Rather than stand and have his portrait made, Sitri chose to make a statement. He presented himself as the Hanged Man, a figure well known to Tarot Card users, with his finger pointing directly downward at the dome the Vatican. Surrounding this dome were three structures with upside down crosses on top of them.

Powerful Beleth Rides A Pale Horse
It is an alien face that stares out at you when the thirteenth Goetia Spirit Beleth appears. Piercing dark eyes and a tiny mark indicating a small, turned down mouth are the only marks on this pale, almost formless head, neck and upper torso. Not a friendly face here. The rest of Beleth is hidden behind a slanting line that might be a wall or window. A square dark object can be seen pressed against the back, a hind of a support of a seat. Is Beleth in a craft? The old masters seemed perplexed about this spirit. They wrote little about Beleth, except to give us one important clue. "He rides on a horse as trumpets and other musical instruments play before him," reports S. L. MacGregor Mathers. "He is a difficult demon to summon, but if the proper proceedings are followed, he will yield."
Lierie’s Skeletal Mask Of Death
The Goetia Spirit Lierie, like so many others seen by the old magickians in years past, appears to have changed his appearance for contemporary times. Instead of "shewing himselfe in the likeness of a galant (handsome) archer, carrieng a bowe and a quiver," as seen by Johann Wier over 500 years ago, Lerie now wears the pall of death. A contemporary sketch of this demon catches a side view of it, clearly showing half of a pale white skeletal mask and a single black eye staring at the ground. Instead of hunting garb, Lierie is dressed in a long green robe and a type of high-pitched green head ornament. Around his neck is a white decorative adornment with bells, like something a court jester might have worn.

Eligos: Warrior Of War
The old magicians said Eligos, the fifteenth spirit of the Goetia, appears as a knight sometimes riding a ghostly horse and carrying a lance as if prepared for battle. If you look closely at the drawing chosen for this report, there is a serpent curled around the lance and the arm of the rider. The sigil for Eligos contains a predominant image of a serpent. We suggest that it is possible that it is the serpent and not the armored figure on the horse that is the intelligence known as Eligos.

Zepar’s Sensual Red Armor
Zepar is the sixteenth spirit and is said to make women attractive to men. His long neck and head, covered in bright red armor, is strangely mindful of a phallus, while the elongated slit, the only clear definition of an orifice in what should be the face, reminds us of a woman's vulva. And if these suggestions are not enough, examine Zepar's sigil. It is clearly the image of male testicles. This demon has sex written all over him. Male readers might think Zepar doesn't sound like too bad a fellow, but they must understand just what this demon is all about. He has no love for humans.

Bathin: An Object In The Sky
When the Spirit Bathin was raised, the demon appeared as an object. The drawing from a remote viewing session clearly shows the elongated and intricate design of what appears to be a space ship, or UFO to use contemporary vernacular. And this leads to the strange thought that perhaps the object is a living entity. Or the demon is still hidden inside and choosing not to be exposed by the artist. S. L. MacGregor Mathers described the spirit as "a strong man with a serpent's tail and sitting upon a pale colored horse." Indeed, such a ship passing through the sky might give the appearance of a rider on a pale horse. A propulsion system behind the moving ship might release a vapor trail that would look like the long tail of a serpent.

Solving World Conflicts At Battle
Botis, the seventeenth spirit of the Goetia, is a true warrior. With his power over 60 legions of demons, he has the ability to solve world conflicts through warfare. This is a truly dangerous character. He also has the power of telling future events, past and relevant present time events. It is said that the reconciliation of an enemy can be assured once it is commanded by Botis. Botis first appeared in a recent evocation as a large serpent near the ceiling winding slowly to the floor where it divided into two parts. Between these two serpentine parts, a human like face appeared of which two darkened holes appeared upon each side of the forehead.

Sallos The Fun Loving Crocodile
The old ones thought of the demon Sallos as a mighty warrior who fought to the death in any battle. Yet they said he was a soldier who preferred eat, drink and love women instead of fight. An old drawing of Sallos portrays him as a massive, bearded man in heavy armor, carrying a lance and riding a giant crocodile. A more recent discovery tells us Sallos is the crocodile, not the rider. Mathers says his talents are to cause men and women to love each other. From the early writings, it was clear that the masters did not fear this particular spirit, the nineteenth listed in the Goetia.

Purson; A Mighty Serpent King
The old magicians saw Purson as a thin man with the face of a lion riding on a large black bear. They even put a horn in Purson's mouth because they said they heard, or at least sensed the sound of trumpets when this demon made its entrance. This is the Twentieth Spirit of the Goetia. Johann Wierr wrote in 1583 that this demon is identified as a “Great King” who appears as a man with a face of a lion and a cruel viper in his hand. “He knoweth things hidden and can tell all things present, past and to come.”

Morax; Demon With Hoofs and Horns
Among the stranger demons among the Goetia is Morax, the twenty-first on the list. This interesting spirit seems somewhat familiar, as he has a head with a ram's horns and two legs with hoofs. There seems to be little if any body. It is the kind of vision that children's nightmares are made of. Or stories told around an ancient campfire.

Forneus; Earth's Mystery Sea Monster
"Forneus appears as a great monster of the sea 30 feet long and six feet in diameter," said one description. "His scales are precious stones, his eyes are like fire and the flesh of drowned sailors clings to his teeth." S. L. MacGregor Mathers agrees that Forneus "appears as a great sea monster."
In fact, the old magicians referred to Forneus as the Marquis of the Waters, saying that the seas are his natural home.

Ipos - The Prince of Fools
It has been said that the demon Ipos has earned the title "Prince of Fools." That is because he has appeared to the ancients as one of the strangest concoctions of Earth animals ever known. His description: "Ipos appears as an angel with a lion's head, the feet of a goose and the tail of a hare." Ipos governs 36 legions of spirit and is said to reveal the future of man.

Aim: Is He A Fire Starter?
In 1863, Collin de Plancy wrote of the 23rd Goetia Spirit Aim in "Dictionnaire Infernal" the following:
"Haborym (aka Aym) is a fire demon and a duke of hell, who commands 26 legions. He appears holding a torch and riding a viper and he has three heads; a serpent, a man, and a cat." That has been the opinion of magicians throughout the ages, that Aim (or Haborym) is a fire starter; that where ever he goes, things burn.

Naberius; A Fluttering Bird
One thing commonly known about the 23rd Goetian Spirit Naberius is that it is filled with energy. When one contemporary magician evoked this spirit he said he saw it as a bird whirling around his head. Nearly all of the older shamans that recorded their personal experiences with this demon agreed. Death Metal Band member Dan Seagrave once said Naberius "appears as a large black crane which flutters around the summoner and speaks in a rough and grating voice."

Glasya-Labolas; A Biblical Terror?
The Book of the Revelation, Chapter Nine, predicts a strange end-time event: "I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth; and to him (the star) was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and there arose a smoke out of the pit, and the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened . . . "And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth, and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only those men who have not the seal of God in their foreheads. When a contemporary magician evoked the twenty-fifth Goetia Spirit Glasya-Labolas and then drew a picture of it, he may have solved this ancient puzzle. This particular demon and the 36 legions of spirit that follow him fit the description of the human-biting creatures described in those verses.

The Many Faces of Bune
About a century ago, S. L. MacGregor Mathers described the twenty-sixth Goetian Spirit Bune as "a dragon with three heads: a dog, a gryphon, and a man." The other best known written authority on the demons of King Solomon is Johann Wier who wrote 400 years earlier that Bune "appeareth as a dragon with three heads, the third whereof is like to a man. Wier also said that Bune "speaketh with a divine voice, he maketh the dead to change their place, and divels to assemble upon the sepulchers of the dead."

Rovone - Spirit Of Political Double-talk
Yet another revelation of the Goetia spirits is Rovone, a distorted "monster" figure said to magically give politicians, salesmen and carnival pitch men golden words that make others believe in them. Whether it’s snake oil or a political promise, the huckster is believed to draw his talents on the charm of this strange demon, the twenty-seventh of the Goetia spirits once captured by Solomon.

Berith Rides A Red Horse
Berith is among the more elegant Goetia Spirits. Although he holds the rank of duke, he appears kingly, dressed in red, always wearing a golden crown, and riding on a red horse. The old wizards saw him this way at least. They said he was to them, a coarse, bearded warrior. A more contemporary vision of Berith, however, depicts this demon as yet another alien riding around in a red space ship rather than a horse.

Is Asteroth A Foul Demon Or Something Else?
The old magicians did not like Asteroth. They made no bones about that. Collin de Plancy in his Dictionnaire Infernal penned about 150 years ago, said "Asteroth appears as an ugly angel riding a dragon and holding a viper in his left hand." He also wrote: "He (Asteroth) is said to emit a powerful fetid odor, and to endure that, the magician should hold a silver magical ring that prevents odors under his nose."

Foras Brings Ominous Warning
Like the other Goetian Spirits appearing in human form, when Foras, Goetia 31, was recently evoked he appeared as a skeleton. It was a message of death. But Foras had even more to say. His bearded remains stood waist deep in a pool of blood. "Foras is said to assist life unto any man and yet I understand the image that it projects," the magician who evoked this demon remarked. He said he believes the spirit is telling us that the future "is hopeless for all mankind."

Asmodai; A Powerful King
This spirit king is so powerful that he was feared, and always highly respected by all who dared to evoke him. It was said that he can spit fire from his mouth. Old writings say that Asmodai is a master of mind control. He has the power to turn those who serve him into beasts for short periods if they ask. He can locate treasure, heal, and start wars. This mighty spirit also is an alchemist, beast master, mechanical, merchant and navigator.

Demon Gaap Can Transport Men
Gaap, the thirty-third listed Spirit of the Goetia, is a mighty prince and president that is believed to be equal in his powers to four other mighty demons, Beleth, Zimmiar, Corson and Amaymon. He sometimes is referred to as Tap. Together these four entities are believed to rule over all of the other 72 Spirits of the Goetia. This spirit controls the element of water and reigns over the water demons. He has 60 legions under his authority.

Furfur; A Flying Deer With Burning Tail
We have all heard the fictional Christmas story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, but who ever heard of a flying deer with a fiery red tail? Was the Rudolph fable a recollection of something from the subconscious? Or perhaps it was the other way around. The old magicians who knew the Goetia Spirits certainly would recognize this image. He is a spirit with the strange name of Furfur.

Marchosias Emerges From Mouth Of The Beast
The magicians of old said they saw Marchosias, the thirty-fifth spirit, as a wolf "with griffin wings and a serpent's tail" that spits fire from its mouth. They even drew a picture portraying it this way. When raised and drawn in a remote viewing session, however, there was a surprise. It turns out that the spirit is the thing that spews from the mouth of the beast. It is not the beast. The viewer saw: "A horned being with a serpent tail opens a mouth of fire and red light. From the mouth of this being comes an image of Marchosias."

Delicate Alien From Mighty Ship
Stolas was yet another interesting Goetia Spirit to examine. When evoked, Stolas first arrived in a massive black triangular craft, and then descended in yet a smaller vessel before appearing as himself. The old magicians, who had no concept of space craft or aliens in other dimensions, observed Stolas as a large black bird that sometimes took "human like form" when summoned. Thus he was drawn in the image of a bird.

Phenex The Songbird That Consumes Its Victims
The 37th spirit Phenex appears in the form of a bird in open wing. It also is a songster, but its music is the unexpected sound of a singing child, as described by the old magicians who have evoked and captured its images. The Goetia Spirit Phenex is often identified as the mystical Phoenix, the bird associated with fire. The story is told that after being consumed by flame of his own making, the Phoenix rises from the ashes. Some say that a singing child sometimes appears under the shadowed wing of this spirit. Phenex holds the rank of Marquis. He rules over 20 legions of demons.

Halphas; A Demon Of War
The thirty eighth Goetia Spirit Halphas was described as a stork, or possibly bird in flight, by the old magicians. A contemporary contact with this demon helps explain why the bird image was so strong to the old ones. This view of Halphas was only of the demon’s head, as it flew past in what appeared to be a flying craft. Little is known about Halphas, who seems to elude human contact. That may indicate a hatred for humanity, reflected in the skills he reportedly has.

Malphas; A Giant Black Bird
S. L. MacGregor Mathers said Malphas always appeared to him as a large black bird, possibly a crow or raven, that could take on humanoid form on command, although this form still remained black. Collin de Plancy, another known occultist, concurred with Mathers. He says Malphas appears as a raven. Both men also agreed that the talents of this spirit are known as a tower, or fortress builder.

Focalor; Weeping Demon Of The Drowned
Focalor, the forty-first Spirit of the Goetia, is said to have power over storms and seas. He gives those that bind him the power to drown souls in sadness and sink ships. He appears as a man with his face twisted in anguish and he has griffin wings. He has green, scaly skin and his hair is like seaweed. He smells of death and the sea. He weeps constantly and some say he has never uttered a coherent word.

Legends of Mermaids;
Medusa May Stem From The Demon Vepar
What you see in the center of a drawing of the demon Vepar is a human face . . . almost feminine . . . with piercing eyes and a somewhat pronounced chin. Especially noticeable about this figure are the curving, serpentine objects projecting from the head. While not twisting like snakes on the head of the mythological Medusa, they do suggest serpents non-the-less.

Sabnock; A Warrior Spirit
S. L. MacGregor Mathers in his study of Goetia Spirits concluded that Sabnock "appears as an armed soldier with a lion's head who rides on a pale horse." Mathers, who copies his material from earlier observers of demonic spirits, adds that Sabnock's specialty is war-like. "He builds towers, castles, and cities and supplies them with armor. He also can cause men to be infected with wounds, sores, or worms for many days."

He also can cause men to be infected with wounds, sores, or worms for many days."
Shax; A Real-Life "Shadow"
When I was a boy, before we had television, one of my favorite radio shows was "The Shadow." It was about a character that had the ability to "cloud men's minds" so that he was invisible to everyone around him. Naturally the Shadow was on the side of good and justice. Shax, the forty-fourth Goetia Spirit, is said to have the ability to do exactly what the fictitious Shadow did. Shax can make people appear invisible. The entity possesses the ability to alter the sight, thought, and hearing of any human so that the magician might become 'invisible' on command.

The Demon Vine
The old magicians knew little about Vine. "He appears as a lion or with a lion's head, rides a black horse, and holds a viper," they said. Others say Vine is thin with dark skin, black wings and black shoulder-length hair. He carries a gold staff. His talents? S. L. MacGregor Mathers wrote: "He discovers hidden things, witches and wizards, and events of the past, present, and future. He can also build towers, overthrow stone walls, and cause storms at sea."

Bifrons – Spirit Of Morbidity
If you have ever walked through a cemetery on a dark night and seen eerie lights rising up over some of the graves, the chances are that Bifrons is nearby. If the sight of the lights may seem spooky enough to cause goose-bumps to rise up your spine, just hope you do not run face-to-face into demonic figures at work in that cemetery. Bifrons, the forty-sixth Spirit of the Goetia, appears in many forms but usually always as a ghoulish figure depicting his apparent interest in things of the dead. If he takes human form you can expect the face to be well hidden under a hood.

Egyptian Spirit Vual
There is a mystery surrounding the forty-seventh Goetia Spirit Vual. He seems to be linked to the Egyptian culture. When evoked in a remote viewing session he appeared as an alien dressed in Egyptian garb and posing in front of the pyramids. His coat appears to be too long for him and the bottom, extending beyond the spirit's feet, lies flat on the ground in front of him. The old magicians said Vual always appeared to them first as a camel, but on request changed himself to human form.

Did Jesus Know Haagenti?
There is a story in the Gospel of John about a wedding that Jesus attended. When the host of the celebration unexpectedly ran out of wine, Jesus performed his celebrated "miracle" in which he turned water into more wine. The demon Haagenti's specialty is turning water into wine, and, and if anybody wishes, wine back into water. He also can turn any metal into gold and make men wise by instructing them in every subject. These are relatively amazing feats for a spirit that presents itself as a red bull with wings. At least this is how the old magicians saw him.

Crocell; The Spirit of Waters
When the magician evoked Crocell, he met a dark robed being that seemed to have wings. It was the distinct human description of an angelic presence, except this entity is a demon. Johann Wier, historian of the Goetia Spirits, wrote in 1583: "Procell (Crocell) is a great and a strong duke, appearing in the shape of an angell, but speaketh verie darklie of things hidden (sic)." Wier noted that Crocell has special talents involving water. "He maketh great noises, and causeth the waters to rore, where are none, he warmeth waters (sic)."

Furcas The Demon Fire Bug
If there is a demon operating behind the rash of California fires this fall it may be Furcas. He is known as a fire starter. The old magicians saw Furcas as a portly old man with a long flowing white beard riding a pale horse and carrying a sharp tool. The identity of the tool ranged from a pointed stick to a scythe, which would appear to make him a harbinger of death. When a remote viewer evoked this entity and drew his portrait in 2001, Furcas appeared as a fiery spirit. His entire body seemed to be comprised of a flashing energy. The old magicians noted that Furcas wears a “hoary” white beard. Even if Furcas is not comprised of fire, there is an indication in the old records that "pyromania" has always been his trade.

Balam; King With Three Heads
The old magicians described Balam as a demon that "appears with a serpent's tail, flaming eyes, and three heads: a bull, a man, and a ram. He rides a bear and carries a goshawk." It is said he has flaming eyes and the tail of a serpent. He carries a hawk on his fist and rides the back of a large bear. Sometimes Balam appears as a naked monster riding a bear. One description said Balam wears a royal crown with two horns projecting from it. His face appears as a goat with a long scraggly beard. He shows long fingers and toes with sharp pointed nails.

Fiery Eyed Warrior Alloces
The old masters always mentioned the eyes of Alloces. They saw them as red, fierce and full of fire. "Those who look directly into his eyes see their own death," said the Seagate writer. So what is there about Alloces that the magicians found so alarming? One new art drawing shows the spirit as only an upper torso of a human skeleton, wearing war armor, and with fire in the eye sockets of the skull. Not only that, but the skull hovers over the Earth, far below. Like so many of the other Goetia Spirits, Alloces chooses to portray himself as a dead man.

Colorful Camio Now Bones
Known among the magicians as a spirit that always appeared as a thrush, and then changed into human form decked out with yellow feathers, the demon Camio was an entity that loved to portray the Earth creatures at their colorful best. But now Camio, the fifty-third Spirit of the Goetia, is showing the human creatures of the Earth as being dead and in decay. When viewed his skeletal frame is aged and fragmented from decay. The bright sword he once flashed in the old days is but a rotted stick. What would be his motive for giving us this message?

Bones Of Murmur Still Speaking To The Dead
Yet another colorful spirit now portrays itself as a human skeleton. This time it is Murmur, the entity that could always speak with the dead. In the early years the magicians saw Murmur thus: "He appears as a warrior riding upon a gryphon and wearing a ducal crown, as those before him sound trumpets." His specialty has always been channeling so that humans speak with the dead. Those who now evoke this spirit are likely to find him to be no more than the skeletal remains of his former self. But the crown is still on his head, even though it is cock-eyed for lack of a body to hold it in place.

Orobas – The Demon Of All Knowledge
It seems odd that Orobas, the all-knowing demon often summoned by occultists for his ability to help gain personal wealth and power, should make his appearance as a crippled horse. Known as the fifty-fifth Spirit of the Goetia, Orobas holds the rank of prince and supposedly has twenty legions of demons under his command. While he appears at first as a horse, it is said that he can change into the form of a man at the conjurer’s request. The reason Orobas is popular among kings and money brokers is that Orobas supposedly has knowledge of all things past, present and future. When summoned, it is said he is faithful to the conjurer and gives true answers to questions about anything asked of him.

Dantalion; The Spirit in George Ferguson's Head
George Ferguson's wife asked me to come to her home and meet her husband George. She said he was struggling to write a book and needed a lot of help. At first I wasn't interested, would-be authors are struggling over this same problem almost everywhere I go. But there was something very different about the Ferguson case. She said George was an uneducated man who was directed by some strange spiritual force to write this particular book. She said I had to meet him to understand what she was talking about. How could I resist exploring a mystery like that?

Gamori - Demon of Perverted Love
He is identified as a duke among the demons, but old drawings of Gamori, the Fifty-Sixth Spirit of the Goetia, depict it as a beautiful female figure riding on a camel. The drawing by Sixteenth Century researcher Johann Weyer also shows a Duchess’s crown tied around the demon’s waist. A remote viewer said he evoked Gamori a few years ago and also drew the figure of a woman. She was wearing a blue and gold covering, and a large undulating serpent was coiled around the entity’s neck and waist. An inverted crown was shown in the serpent’s mouth.

Is The Sphinx Linked To Ose?
When recently evoked, Ose, the fifty-seventh spirit of the Goetia appeared as an alien face on the Sphinx, with the three pyramids visible in the background. The meaning of this image is a mystery. There is nothing in the Goetia record that explains the link between Ose and the Sphinx, or even Egypt. But there is this: He has always appeared to the old magicians in the form of a leopard that later transforms into image of a man. That the Sphinx appears as a cat-like animal with a human face may be significant.

Mystery Fire Spirit Amy
Amy, the fifth-eighth Goetian Spirit, seems to appear as a brilliant flash of light when evoked. Even more mysterious are the three orbs, each connected by a bar, reminding us of the start of a DNA coil. It is from one of these orbs that this light called Amy pours. For sure, the appearance of Amy was as much a mystery to the old mystics as he is to us. There is very little written about his description other than to say that he always appears as a "flame of fire." From the Seagate data on demonology we learn that Amy has another ancient name. It is Avnas. He is known as the President of Fire.

Twisted Serpents Of Orias
The old masters described him thus: "He appears as a lion with a serpent's tail and rides upon a horse. He holds two large hissing serpents in his right hand." In demonology, Orias is a Great Marquis of Hell. He has 30 legions of demons under his command. He teaches about the stars and planets, the influence of astrological signs, gives dignities, prelacies and is said to be able to metamorphose a man into any shape.

Winged Pixie Vapula
The old magicians said Vapula, the Sixtieth Goetian Spirit, "appears as a lion with gryphon wings." When examining the artist’s drawings, my first feeling is that I am looking at a pixie . . . something that might have flown right out of a Walt Disney cartoon film. There is the tiny face, the massive, almost artistic wings, and the body that coils down and around in an almost insect-like way. Little seems to be known about Vapula. The Seagate web site suggests color and sound in a description that may be somewhat embellished: He has "a red mane. He has great green eyes which seem full of wisdom and his voice is a quiet rumbling."

Have We Seen Zagan Before?
The Goetia Spirit Zagan, the sixty-first demon, appears very familiar. He looks like a bull with wings. And his specialty is turning water into wine. Was this not the spirit that once had contact with Jesus at the wedding party, and was called upon to turn water into wine? We have heard this story before when we examined the spirit Haagenti. Like Zagan, he also was a winged bull. Like Zagan, he may also have helped Jesus at the wedding party. Zagan also is said to be capable of turning any metal into money. And he is a master of deception, fraud and counterfeiting.

Volac Rides Serpents
Volac, the sixty-second Goetia Spirit, has been portrayed as a winged cherub riding a two-headed dragon. A second and more recent portrait shows Volac as a small and winged entity. He looks more like an alien than a human child. And his feet are riding the backs of two large intertwined serpents, not one dragon with two heads.

Andras Comes Out Swinging
When evoked, this spirit appeared in a battle stance and brandishing a sword. Andras, who looks more like an insect than the angelic appearing entity the old magicians described, does not seem to be a being I would want to meet on a battlefield or in a dark alley. The mystics said Andras "appears as an angel with a raven head." The only thing slightly angelic about this demon is that he has wings. It was said he always rode a wolf and carried a sword in his right hand. Collin de Plancy wrote that Andras rides a black wolf and has the head of an owl. As the sixty-third Spirit of the Goetia, he is ranked as a grand marquess who commands 30 legions of demons. He likes to escalate quarrels and discord where ever he appears.

Haures Hangs Like A Bat
Another unexpected surprise came with the evocation of the Goetia Spirit Haures. The old masters wrote that he always appeared in the form of a big cat but this time he was very different. The magician wrote: "A human-like figure falls into the circle from the temple ceiling above and behind me. Bright red flames emit from the eyes of Haures." This sixty-fourth spirit looks very un-human. He is distinctly alien, almost skeletal, with flaming red eyes. Those eyes have been catching the attention of magicians for centuries.

Great Peacock Andrealphus
An interesting contrast appeared with Andrealphus, the sixty-fifth Spirit of the Goetia. This demon has a history of colorful display when evoked. He likes to present himself as a peacock. It is said that Andrealphus can transform people into birds, but the effect only lasts a brief time. He also is a teacher of geometry, measurements and mathematics, and is proficient in astronomy and astrology.

Cimejes; The Spirit Of Africa
There seems to be a true spirit watching over the Continent of Africa. He is Cimejes, a tall, black entity that looks like, and distinctly associates himself with the black skinned people of that part of the world. The Sixteenth Century magician Johann Wier wrote that Cimeries (yet another spelling) “is a great marquesse and strong, ruling in the parts of Africa.” S. L. MacGregor Mathers also wrote: “He ruleth over all spirits in the parts of Africa.” Cimejes appears as a thin dark warrior riding a black horse. He holds the rank of marquis and leads 20 legions of demons. He is said to have the power of finding lost and hidden treasure, teach grammar, logic and rhetoric, and can turn men into warriors that look like him.

Amdusias; Source of Unicorn Myth
The source of the old fable about unicorns, or one-horned horses, may have been discovered in the evocation of the Goetia Spirit Amdusias. This spirit appeared as a holographic projection of a horned horse. Not only this, but he arrived amidst the sound of blaring horns and there were bright colored lights flashing around him.

Belial – The Demon Of Lawlessness
Throughout history the name of Belial has remained among the most powerful among the demonic world. Secret groups have worshipped Belial perhaps as much as they have Bael. Belial is a powerful king and it is said he may have been the second angel created after Lucifer. The Catholic Encyclopedia suggests that Belial may even have been involved with Lucifer in the events in the garden leading to the fall of mankind. He is listed among the fallen angels. This entity is listed as the Sixty-Eighth Spirit of the Goetia and is said to reign over as many as 80 legions of demons.

Decarabia – A Friend Of The Earth
Decarabia is identified as the sixty-ninth spirit of the Goetia. In other words, he is considered one of the 72 demons once controlled by the legendary King Solomon and among the special forces summoned by contemporary occultists to perform certain magical tasks. Much of what we know about Decarabia and the 71 other Spirits of the Goetia are drawn from the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, a Sixteenth Century writing by Johann Weyer and The Goetia: The Lesser Key of Solomon the King, a 1904 translation of an ancient text by Samuel Mathers. The books describe each of the spirits, give us information as to their ranks and powers, and give instructions for summoning them.

Seere Flies Through The Sky
The Goetian Spirit Seere will not seem like a stranger to many of us. We have all seen pictures of him, even photographs from time to time. That is because Seere seems to be a UFO. As incredible as this seems, this is the picture that emerged from a recent remote viewing session after the evocation of this amazing spirit. Whether the craft pictured in this drawing has a living being operating it from inside, or the craft is the living entity, is the mystery. Even Seere's sigil indicates the erratic movements we see when a UFO is observed fleeting through the night sky.

Dantalion; The Spirit Of Knowledge
Dantalion, the 71st Spirit of the Goetia, is known to have many heads that speak through one mouth, although the tormented man I wrote of claimed that he had hundreds of heads enter his own when he asked the spirit for help. After this he spoke in riddles about numerics, the stars and the makeup of our planet. One writer who had an experience with Dantalion states that this spirit is a Duke, "can foresee the future, is able to see what others are thinking and has the abilities to change their minds."

Andromalius; Serpent Defender From The Stars
The ancients caught glimpses of the Goetian Spirit Andromalius, but they did not understand what they were looking at. One description: "Andromalius appears as a large man of fearsome mien holding a viper in one hand. He dresses all in cloth of gold." MacGregor Mathers copies this with: "He appears in the form of a man holding a serpent." Contemporary spiritualist Aaron C. Donahue made a remarkable discovery when he recently evoked this exciting spirit and then examined it through the science of technical remote viewing. Andromalius is the serpent, not the image of the man holding it.

Donahue made a remarkable discovery when he recently evoked this exciting spirit and then examined it through the science of technical remote viewing. Andromalius is the serpent, not the image of the man holding it.
