The Terrible Trump Platform

Angry Americans feel enamored by Donald Trump because he is an outspoken voice of rebellion against a failed system. His big bully commentary has caught the ears of people who desperately want change and they are jumping on his bandwagon in hopes that at long last they have a presidential candidate with the charisma to shake up the Washington establishment.
But the people who think they like Mr. Trump should take a moment and listen carefully to what he has been saying of late. While he hasn't published more on his website than the two simple promises of making America great again and creating jobs, he is beginning to describe his plans in some of the rhetoric he has been spewing during campaign stops.
His plan, as it has rolled from his spit-flying lips, is really scary.
He has a tax reduction plan. He wants to cut corporate taxes by at least another 15 percent. He believes by granting big business interests even more profits than they are already enjoying. He promises that the result will be more business expansion and consequently more jobs. It is the old Reagan trickle-down economic system that was tried 30 years ago. It didn’t work then, it never worked, and there are few alive who think it might have a snowball’s chance in hell of working now.
The biggest danger in a Trump presidency is that he believes the threat of global warming and climate change is a hoax. He is promising, if elected, to cancel the Paris climate agreement and reverse all of President Obama's executive orders that would ensure U.S. compliance with the agreement.
Trump wants to scale back regulations on ozone pollution and eliminate the Environmental Protection Agencies’ Renewable Identification Number program, part of the Renewable Fuel Standard program. He promises to reverse any climate-friendly Obama Administration acts and reverse regulations that have forced hundreds of old coal-fired power blants to go out of production.
Trump is promising to revive construction of the Keystone XL pipeline (and probably uphold the controversial Standing Rock pipeline in North Dakota).
He believes getting rid of all government regulations on U.S. businesses will help “kick-start the economy” and get things rolling again like they were 50 years ago. He has promised coal miners will be going back to work because coal-burning plants will be allowed to operate without reservation, spewing carbon monoxide at full blast into the air.
They did that for a while in China. The big cities became so choked with smog people were forced to wear face masks just to walk outside. The Chinese government has joined the world nations that are now desperately attempting to curb the burning of carbon fuels. China’s President Xi Jinping recently shook hands with U.S. President Barack Obama during the latest G-20 Conference in Hangzhou over the latest clean air pact signed by representatives of 174 nations in Paris, France.
The world is looking to the United States . . . long known as the biggest polluter . . . to take the lead in turning to alternative green energy. They are starting to act even though many scientists are worried that it may be too late to stop the global warming effect of the high concentrations of carbon dioxide in the planet’s atmosphere.
A Trump presidency, backed up by a Republican controlled Congress which has never endorsed the Paris accord, would create a major block to U.S. efforts to control runaway global warming. Even with private agencies working feverishly to develop alternative energy sources, a Trump presidency might signal a virtual death knell for the human race.
An even worse scenario; there are some elderly Supreme Court members waiting patiently for conditions to improve so they can retire from the bench. Congress has refused to appoint Mr. Obama’s picks for a successor to the late Judge Antonin Scalia. They are also waiting to see who wins the presidency in November before moving on this key issue. Consider a Trump presidency. Consider the mindset of the judicial appointments this psychopath will be picking. Consider the long-range damage that will do to this nation.
While Trump has wavered on just about every issue, his general attitude about abortion is that he is “pro-life.” We can see a looming judicial panel that will overturn the long-debated Roe vs. Wade decision.
Mr. Trump also wants to get rid of the national health care plan that was pushed through by the Obama Administration during his first term in office. The program isn't perfect and needs a lot of repair. The idea was that at last a health-care program was in place and future legislators could begin building from that. But with Trump in power, and if he succeeds in accomplishing what he wants to do, millions of Americans appear to be in danger of losing the health insurance they currently have.
Just think about the consequences of a Trump presidency before we go to the polls in November. The damage done by eight years under George W. Bush will be quickly overlooked once a personality like Donald Trump gets his hands on the power.
And oh yes. There is that nuclear button to think about.
