Subjected Fate Of All Fundamental Bible Thumpers
By James Donahue
If you believe that the Christian Bible is truly the inspired word of God, and that it is your duty as a “born again” believer to obey all of its written laws, then you should probably expect to be stoned to death in the town square.
The problem with this form of capital punishment is that the stoning is to be done by true believers who, themselves, are very likely among the “sinners” who have violated the written laws and are also condemned to suffer the same death penalty. Thus we have the strange image of a gathering of Christian extremists in the act of committing suicide by stoning each other for silly reasons . . . like munching down a cheeseburger or walking into a church with dirty feet.
Very few, if any living humans today can say they have not broken at least one of the Old Testament laws punishable by death. And if they have not carefully studied the Mosaic laws outlined in the Old Testament, they are almost surely doomed because they were careless and didn’t know any better.
The Mosaic list of “laws” allegedly handed down by Jehovah to Moses on the mountain are not only filled with commandments but mandating the punishment for law violators. And the penalties are incredibly harsh. Following is a list of laws that subject violators to an ugly death:
Sex acts including homosexuality, adultery, rape, incest, and bestiality can be expected on the list. But the list also includes lying to the boyfriend about being a virgin, being a priest’s daughter who practices prostitution, daring to be a priest that marries a woman to her daughter (it's really one of the laws), failing to bleed when the hymen is broken on the wedding night or having sex with a woman during her menstrual cycle.
Alright, most of us can say we have not committed most of the above “sins.” But don’t breathe easy just yet. Consider the following:
It is sinful unto death to eat certain foods like pork, creatures from the sea containing fins or scales, consume fat, or eat meat mixed with dairy (like a cheeseburger), eating cheese, ice cream or drinking a glass of milk immediately during or after consuming a main course of beef, fish or chicken, eating hybrid vegetables, fruits or grains mixed with other foods (genetically modified) or even eating two kinds of vegetables grown in the same garden.
Death to males who are uncircumcised.
Also the death penalty is slapped upon those who worship idols (like money?), attempt to convert people to other religions, practice magic, consulting a psychic, or being a psychic, medium or spiritualist. Stoning is in store for anyone that curses in the name of God, works on the Sabbath, manufactures anointing oils, acts as a false prophet or enters church in an "unclean state" or just not going to church at all.
Yup, doing any of the above things, and many other strange acts too numerous and silly to include in the list, are declared by the Old Testament to be punishable by death.
Other crimes on the list include murdering a slave, kidnapping and selling another person, committing perjury, ignoring the ruling of a judge or priest, allowing a farm bull to get loose and kill someone, being a rebellious son, cursing at or striking your parents. It is also a capital crime to plant more than one kind of seed in a field (or garden), wear clothing woven of more than one kind of cloth, cut the hair (or beard) on the edges, wear clothing of the opposite sex or touch the dead carcass of a pig.
The punishment is usually stoning but some of these "crimes" must be resolved by burning the offender alive on a stake.
The act of stoning is carefully described in the scriptures. The guilty person is buried up to his or her neck in the earth. Then neighbors gather around, throwing small stones at the head. The stoning may continue for hours until the guilty person is dead of inflicted injuries.
So why aren't the Bible thumpers living up to the Biblical laws and stoning each other regularly? For one reason, it is almost impossible not to violate the food laws today because of Monsanto's genetically modified seeds and court decisions allowing food producers to get away with not having to list GMO foods on packaging. Also Christian men usually always appear well groomed when they go to church, which means that they have had conventional hair cuts and beards trimmed.
Attempts to stone or burn people to death for any of the above "crimes" in today's society will bring murder charges against anyone tossing stones or striking matches at the stake.
Also contemporary theologians have established a convenient "work-around" for contemporary Bible believers so they can feel justified to commit these Old Testament crimes and get away with it. It appears that Jesus spilled his blood and spent three days in hell paying for all the sinful acts of believers, so they are automatically forgiven.
The other problem we have is that most of the so-called Old Testament sins just don't make much sense.
